Lobster Season Delayed In Northumberland Strait

By Allan Dearing Aug 9, 2022 | 6:20 AM

The opening of the fall lobster season in the Northumberland Strait has been delayed.

The season was supposed to open today in Lobster Fishing Area 25.

However, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) said the opening will be delayed until at least Thursday due to bad weather.

DFO will be holding a conference call with harvesters later this morning to provide an update.

About 400 New Brunswick harvesters will be heading out when conditions permit in LFA 25 which includes the southeast coastline, western Prince Edward Island and a small part of northern Nova Scotia.

The season was expected to end on October 10 but DFO says it could be lengthened by up to four days depending on delays.
