A Canadian adventure company wants to help if you’re looking to hit the open road this summer.

Ontario-based Guess Where Trips is working on bringing more surprise adventures to Nova Scotia. The company plans one-day road trips across the country.

All you need is to hop in your car with a full tank of gas and a desire to get lost in your own backyard.

Founder Jessica Off tells our newsroom they currently offer two road trip packages, “Coastal Crawl” and “Valley Views,” to help you explore Nova Scotia and support local businesses.

She says when you order a package you’ll get a kit with four envelopes in the mail, or you can opt for a digital download.

“So you would first open your ‘Before You Go’ guide, which has a packing list,” Off explains. “There’s a playlist recommendation for music, and it tells you when to leave. So the morning of your trip, we typically recommend for you to leave at around 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.”

Once you turn the key in the ignition and press the button to play your jams, you can unseal the first adventure envelope.

“And that might take you to like a hidden waterfall next to a coffee shop,” Off says. “After you’ve done that activity, you open up the second envelope, which might take you on a nice coastal stroll, or to see a hidden gem. We throw in a few haunted attractions here and there. Then your day continues on that way with four surprise envelopes.”

Off adds although these trips are planned for a single day you can easily book a hotel in the area and make it into an overnight journey.

The company launched in Nova Scotia last year, offering people the chance to take a staycation amid pandemic restrictions.

Off says business has been booming ever since, which is why they want to continue to expand their adventures in Nova Scotia next year.

Meantime, a recent survey by CIBC found eighty percent of Canadians polled are worried about the impact sky-high inflation will have on their summer plans.

Off explains Guess Where Trips aims to help people take a vacation without the splurge.

“It’s six to eight hours of activities that are mostly free, or just very minimal parking costs or entrance fees. We recommend quite a few local restaurants, local attractions, hikes, and quirky little gems,” Off says. “It’s an affordable trip too because with the price of gas increasing, that will be your primary cost. But if you go with a group of four people and split the package and gas, it does make for an affordable day. You don’t have to deal with how hectic it can get at the airport. We definitely keep costs in mind. We make sure all the little stops we’re including are free or don’t cost very much to enter.”

She adds because they’re based in Ontario they found road trip ambassadors who are local to Nova Scotia to help put together the itinerary for your journey.

Off got the idea to create surprise adventures after putting together a Christmas gift for her parents, which included an overnight trip through a series of top-secret envelopes.

Guess Where Trips adventure packages are $65 per group, or $39 if you want the digital version.
