Police seized a loaded firearm while arresting a man in Dartmouth on Sunday.
They say the 21-year-old was being tracked by officers as part of an ongoing investigation near Demetreous Lane just after 8 p.m.
When they caught up to him on foot, officers seized the gun.
Jayree Vontaze Downey has been charged with various firearms offences including the following:
- Possession weapon dangerous to the public
- Unsafe handling of a firearm
- Unsafe storage of a firearm
- Carrying a concealed weapon
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Possession of a prohibited/restricted firearm without license
- Possession restricted firearm with ammunition
- Possession of a firearm contrary to court order (x 2)
- Obstructing a peace officer
- Fail to comply with a court order (x 2)
Downey was scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on Monday.
