A former Nova Scotia Court of Appeal judge will oversee a review of Hockey Canada.

Thomas Cromwell, who also served as a Supreme Court Justice, will head the independent review of the organization’s governance structures.

The review was ordered by Hockey Canada after allegations surfaced this year of a sexual assault on a woman in 2018 by several members of that year’s World Junior team.

The organization says the review will produce recommendations to ensure governance, systems, personnel and processes are in best practice for the national sport group.

Hockey Canada Board of Directors Chair Michael Brind’Amour says the review is critical to restoring trust with Canadians, and ensuring they have the right people in place to deliver on their Action Plan.

The terms of reference for the review include Hockey Canada’s use of the National Equity Fund to settle sexual assault claims, actions to help restore trust in Hockey Canada’s Board of Governors, and oversight of senior management.

The recommendations will be presented in November.
