Boulevard Lake Playground; That Much Closer To The Finish Line

By Katie Nicholls Aug 5, 2022 | 11:08 AM

It seems like it’s been under construction for ages, when in reality it’s only been a few weeks.

Work started at the outdated park at the end of May with crews removing the old equipment and making way for a bigger and better play space.

Some visible features to the new setup:

  • spacious; more running around room for kids if all ages
  • rubber base; more environmentally friendly and less likely to have to dump shoes out before going home
  • better accessibility; the park has many features for those with mobility/accessibility restrictions
  • fitness area; geared toward adults, but open for anyone to use it. Signage is posted on how to do certain exercises on the permanent equipment.
  • low to the ground activities; lots of walk/roll up activity spaces for park-goers to spin wheels, drum, music making… you name it

The rubber base of the park is being installed over the next two weeks, with walkways to follow.

With supply issues across many industries, there hasn’t been any delays when it comes to the equipment. The City of Thunder Bay is working with the Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charity who had already sourced the equipment and materials long before the work got started at the defunct park.

The only issue the City believes it might encounter is when it comes to cement. There’s been a cement shortage industry wide, and it will be needed to lay the walkways leading to and from the park.

The revitalized park is expected to open in mid to late September.
