A 26-year-old is facing a slew of charges as Halifax Regional Police investigate two shootings in the city on Thursday night.
Police were called to a report of gunshots ringing out near Micmac Street and Chisholm Avenue at around 10:30 p.m.
They say a home had been hit with bullets. No injuries were reported. A dark-coloured vehicle was seen in the area at the time of the shooting.
“Officers located evidence of a shooting in the area,” a news release says. “There were no reports of injuries or property damage.”
Soon after a second call came in reporting gunshots near Bently Drive. Two hours later police found a car that had crashed into a power pole in the area of Lacewood Drive near Lincoln Cross Drive. They seized a loaded handgun and arrested the driver.
“Evidence of a shooting was located with the vehicle,” police say.
Shiquawn Marcel Upshaw-Paris is facing various firearm-related charges including the following:
- Possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace
- Unsafe storage of a firearm
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Possession of a firearm without a license
- Possession of a firearm in a vehicle
- Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
- Possession of a firearm contrary to a court order (x 2)
- Improper storage of a firearm
- Breach of a court order (x 3)
Police are working to determine if the incidents are related.
