Moncton residents are being told to consider their options before going to the emergency room this weekend.

The Horizon Health Network issued a notice Friday stating it comes amid staffing shortages at The Moncton Hospital’s emergency department.

“We encourage you to visit SoWhyWait.ca to help choose the best option for care: pharmacist, primary health care provider, after-hours clinic, eVisitNB, Tele-Care 811, or the Emergency Department,” read the notice.

Horizon says patients should consider one of the following health-care options:

  • If you have a minor ailment such as a urinary tract infection or need a prescription refill, visit your local pharmacist.
  • There are several walk-in clinics in the Moncton area, which can treat minor or non-urgent illnesses such as a sore throat, earache, or rash.
  • Cold or flu symptoms, sinus infections and other common medical conditions can be treated, through eVisitNB.
  • If you need health care advice or are unsure about your medical issue, you can contact Tele-Care 811.

Horizon says the ongoing staffing shortages are difficult for everyone and encourages those seeking care to consider which option works best for their case.

The Emergency Department remains open and will be available for emergency, critical and urgent cases.

If you are experiencing a medical emergency, you can visit the nearest Emergency Department or call 911.
