Halifax Harbour to return to normal after wastewater pump fixed

By Skye Bryden-Blom Aug 4, 2022 | 2:56 PM

Untreated wastewater is no longer flowing into the Halifax Harbour.

Halifax Water says the wastewater pump station at Duffus Street is working again after emergency repairs.

Crews also encountered problems with testing on Wednesday when the pump quickly got clogged with rags and wipes.

It prompted an advisory for Haligonians not to flush so-called flushable wipes.

The public was also told it’s best to only flush the 3 P’s – pee, poo, and paper.

The utility expects it will take a few days for the harbour to return to its natural condition.

Halifax Water continues to warn people not to swim there.
