Saint John Pride volunteers are gearing up for this year’s Pride Week, which runs from Aug. 2 to 7.

The events begin on Tuesday with flag raisings at Saint John City Hall and HMCS Brunswicker.

Allie Murchison-Maguire, a board member with Saint John Pride, said they have a wide range of events lined up.

“We’re really trying to be able to get as many people out to this year’s Pride festivities. Over the past couple of years with the COVID-19 pandemic, we haven’t been able to highlight and really have as many people out,” Murchison-Maguire said in a phone interview.

This year’s events include a “Queens vs Queers” softball game, a dance party, a trivia night, a talent show, a Pride market, and a drag storytime.

Saint John Pride will also be hosting its first bilingual event, drag bingo at Centre scolaire Samuel-de-Champlain on Thursday, Aug. 4.

Murchison-Maguire said this year will also mark the return of the Pride parade on Saturday, Aug. 6, for the first time since the pandemic began.

“Our first parade in a couple of years. A parade in the daytime so we’ll really be able to get to see families and kids out there,” she said.

The parade will leave King Street East at 1 p.m. It will make its way around King’s Square, go down King Street, and turn left onto Water Street before concluding at the Marco Polo Cruise Terminal.
