A new provincial program means people who’ve been sexually assaulted will have better access to trauma therapy.
Our government announced today it’ll spend $2.8 million annually to hire 13 therapists across the province.
Adrienne Buckland, a Trauma therapist with Avalon Sexual Assault Centre, says this change comes from of years of advocacy.
“There’s always, unfortunately, been folks who — for various reasons — haven’t been able to access services, haven’t had a trauma therapist near enough to their communities.
The program, starting in spring 2023, will be supported by a total of 24 therapists once fully staffed.
Right now, there are 11 across the province.
