It’s the last two days of Fire Prevention Week in Nova Scotia.

Yarmouth Fire Chief Mike Deveau is out with advice to stay safe in the event of a fire and shared this week’s message.

“Fire won’t wait, plan your escape. We want to make sure that you have an escape plan in place that meets all the needs of all your family members included, anyone who has any physical or sensory, like sight, disabilities.”

He says the escape plan should include two ways out of every room, an outside meeting place and be tested twice a year.

Deveau also offered a reminder as we enter the colder months.

“This is the time of year when people start to use their heating for their homes. You should have your furnaces checked and inspected, your chimneys cleaned and inspected and have a look around your home for any other hazards that might accumulate through the year like extension cords.”
