Residents in Liverpool and Brooklyn are being asked to continue reducing their water usage by half as the Region of Queens Municipality provided more details on the severity of ongoing water supply challenges.

The Town Lake Reservoir, which provides water for both communities, is currently three feet below its maximum capacity. If levels drop another foot, reduced water pressure across the system could affect residents and businesses.

While conservation measures remain voluntary, Mayor Scott Christian emphasized the importance of immediate action. “There just has not been enough rain to restore the reservoir to where we need it. By working together, we can ease the strain until we get some badly needed rain,” Christian said.

Some residents have expressed concerns about hydrant flushing during the conservation period. The municipality clarified that this process ensures water quality and flushing rates have been cut significantly to conserve as much water as possible.

The municipality is encouraging residents to:

• Limit showers and baths.
• Flush toilets only when necessary.
• Wait for full loads to run dishwashers or washing machines.
