Job vacancies cause Dryden’s budget to have a surplus

By Tim Davidson Nov 21, 2024 | 3:18 PM

2025 is expected to be a challenging year for the City of Dryden’s budget.

But in 2024, things are looking rosey.

City treasurer Steven Lansdell-Roll says they expect to post a surplus.

“The biggest ticket item is our salary, wages and benefit costs being $889,000 lower than anticipated in Q-3,”

“This variance does relate to a significant amount of vacant positions that we’ve had throughout in 2024.”

Lansdell-Roll says on the positive note, all the vacancies did save the city some money.

“We are forecasting to have an operating surplus this year.  Overall, our revenues are anticipated to be pretty much on budget.  On the expense side, due to the vacancies will have a positive variance of salaries and benefits.”

Lansdell-Roll says overall, their revenue was lower than budgeted for, but so too were their expense for the first nine months of the year.
