Power Corp. reaches new safety milestone

Staff at the Fort Frances Power Corporation are being recognized for their efforts to stay safe on the job.

The utility’s eleven employees have combined to work over 250,000 hours without a loss-time injury.

Chief Executive Officer Jorge Ruppenstein says it is quite monumental.

“It took us 16 and a half years to achieve this milestone, which is more than half of a working career for a 30-year career, which is just incredible,” says Ruppenstein.

“It’s been an absolute pleasure to be a part of this amazing organization. We work in a very unforgiving industry where accidents are typically fatal, and I’m just so grateful, so thankful to have achieved this milestone.”

“A lot of people don’t realize that a lot of the work that we do is actually on energized systems. If you touch the wrong wire, it’s lethal.”

The employees and board directors were honoured at a ceremony this week for their role in extending the safety record.

Ruppenstein says safety has been a culture of the Corporation that is fully supported by the board.

“It’s a team effort. It takes everyone in the organization, right from the board of directors for all of their support for outfitting the land crews with grade A safety equipment, right to the competencies of all of the staff and linemen.”
