Three First Nations are taking the City of Kenora and the federal government to court over a land claim involving Anicinabe Park.
The statement of claim was made Tuesday in Ontario Superior Court.
Wauzhushk Onigum (Rat Portage), Niisaachewan (the Dalles) and Washagamis Bay say the federal government breached its legal and fiduciary duty when it sold the park to Kenora back in 1959.
It says the feds set aside the land for the First Nation’s use back in 1929.
The City of Kenora has filed notice of its intent to defend itself in court.
A joint announcement about the claim was made yesterday at the Golden Eagle Bingo Hall on Wauzhushk Onigum.
