The Salisbury Legion has launched a special display honouring the veterans.

Banners are hanging in the Village until Remembrance Day.

Salisbury Legion President Susan Dryden says, “Everyone has a picture and name and rank, where they serve, whether they were Air Force or Army.”

She says discussions for this project began around three years ago, but they stalled due to the pandemic.

“This February the Mayor and I got together and worked it all out. We started taking orders at the end of April until the first of July. We were hoping for 30 banners, but we ended up with 44. They go down Fredericton Road now as well, and then down Main Street almost to the Legion.”

The featured veterans aren’t all residents of Salisbury, but Dryden says they are the parents or children of those who do, “Some of them are not deceased, they’re retired. Some of them are still serving. The veterans are all important, whether they’re still serving, whether they’ve retired or whether they’re deceased. We have some young pictures and older pictures and they just look amazing.”

The banners will come down shortly after Remembrance Day, and the Village will store them until next year.

“We’re hoping to get four to five years out of each banner. I’ve already got about five orders for next year, people that didn’t realize we were doing them,” Dryden adds.

For those who would like to add another veteran for a banner for 2023, Dryden is asking that you hold off until April of next year to submit your information to the Legion.
