Canadian Dental Care Program hits milestone

By Tim Davidson Oct 31, 2024 | 5:36 PM

The federal dental care program has hit a major milestone.

One million people have now received treatment.

Health Minister Mark Holland says that represents big savings.

“On average, it saves somebody $730 dollars, and that’s a big deal at a time when global costs are increasing, but it’s also a big deal because it’s a matter of fundamental matter of dignity,” Holland told a news conference in Scarborough, Ontario.

Holland is hoping almost all Canadians will be included by next year.

“Early in 2025, is when we’re looking to start expanding to additional cohorts.  As I should say, right now we’re seeing everyone 65 and older and 18 and under.  So, for those that are in between those age groups, those cohorts are coming in 2025. ”

Holland says 2.7 million people have signed up for the dental care program, and the hope is most Canadians can join in 2025.
