Angela Lansbury Passes Away

A name synonymous with music and murder stories, Angela Lansbury passed away at 96.

In a career that spanned eight decades, Lansbury is best known for her role as Mrs. Potts in Disney’s original cartoon Beauty and the Beast and as an author and investigator Jessica Fletcher in Murder, She Wrote. Her show solidified her fame as it aired from 1984 through to 1996, and included two television movies.

Before she stole hearts in the latter roles, Lansbury was a gay icon after staring in Broadway shows Mame and Gypsy

In addition to her three Oscar nominations and seven Tony awards, Lansbury holds the record of Emmy actress awards with 12 for her role in her landmark show Murder, She Wrote.

Lansbury died during her sleep at her home in Los Angeles on Tuesday, according to a statement from her three children.

She died five days shy of her 97th birthday.
