KCDSB enrollment down slightly

Enrollment is down overall at the Kenora Catholic District School Board this fall.

Student figures were released to trustees this week.

The initial projections were made back in June, and the updated numbers were calculated just last week.

Superintendent of Business Services Alison Smith says they are seeing the biggest decrease at the high school level.

“So, we’re seeing a bit of a decrease at St. Thomas Aquinas High School, but overall, when you look at it as a whole, we’re down slightly by 13 students, which we consider pretty close to being in line with our projections.”

Smith points out that right now, their numbers are lower than were projected in the spring right across the board, with a few exceptions.

“So overall, our total head count is 1,252.  We projected 1,265.  So, we’re down just slight by the 13 students.”

One of the biggest increases was at St. John School in Red Lake, which saw an increase of 12 students and sits with an enrollment of 135.

The updated enrollment numbers are being sent to the Ministry of Education and will be used to calculate their Grants for Student Needs.
