The Dryden GM Ice Dogs are again doing their part to raise awareness about cancer awareness.

They will hold their annual Pink the Rink event on October 19th with their game against the Thunder Bay North Stars.

Secretary Natasha Lovenuk says players will wear pink jerseys and the team will raffle off several items.

“We’ve had a number of members of our hockey community who have benefited from being able to receive cancer care at home in Dryden, and we feel that it’s a really important part of our community,” says Lovenuk.

“Being a community-owned team, we are very much committed to giving back to the community that supports us. And this is one of the ways that we do it and have done it for now. 15 years.”

There will be a penny auction table with prizes donated by local businesses, and others donated by the team.

They include private ice time with your favourite GM Ice Dog player, season passes and playoff tickets.

A quilt made by Joan Scheider using fabric from old team jerseys will also be raffled off.

“We ensure that the monies raised through the event stay here locally and go towards the Dryden Regional Health Centre’s oncology unit.”

Residents also have a chance to own one of the pink jerseys players will wear.

Lovenuk says purchases have to be made by this Friday.

“The players will wear them on the ice at the game. And if you purchase the jersey, you’ll receive it afterward.”

“What we always find so special about these jerseys is that individuals purchasing them can customize the name bar to either celebrate someone who’s survived the battle or to remember someone who may not have.”

Steve and Blair Contracting is this year’s rink sponsor for the event.

Fans are encouraged to wear pink on game day.
