A five-game losing streak is over for the Yarmouth Mariners,

They beat the Grand Falls Rapids 5-1 on Saturday night at home for their third win of the season.

Rookie Carter Arnold made 45 saves for his first MHL win.

The 17-year-old says the support was great from the over 1,300 in attendance.

“Feels great to get the first win under the belt, the boys really helped me out tonight. Looking forward to getting the next one and keep winning games this season,” said Arnold, who is the youngest player on the team.

Jerome Nadeau had two goals to lead the Mariners offense, Justin Garneau, Jared Pitman and Keefe Marshall also scored, Thomas Larouche had three assists.

Head Coach and GM Laurie Barron called it a big win early in the season.

“It’s been tough sledding with injuries and suspensions, we had ten forwards and six defensemen tonight. We had some heavy lifting, but we got it done,” said Barron.

The Mariners got a big two points after falling in a close game to Edmundston the night before at the Fishtank.

The final score was 3-1 on a late empty-netter, Garneau had the lone-goal for the Mariners, and Thomas Fontaine made 35 saves to keep his team in it.

The Mariners record is now 3-4-0-1, they’ll welcome the Amherst Ramblers on Friday night.
