Voter information cards will start arriving on Monday

We are now just two weeks away from the New Brunswick provincial election on Oct. 21.

More than 315,000 voter information cards are expected to start hitting mailboxes on Monday.

Chief Electoral Officer Kim Poffenroth said they will have everything you need to know about when and where to vote.

Poffenroth said it is a good idea to bring your voter card with you when you head to cast your ballot.

“You don’t need your voter information card, but it will make the process even quicker at the polls,” Poffenroth told our newsroom.

“There’s a barcode on those cards, and they’ll scan that and you’ll be looked up very easy.”

If you do not receive a voter information card, Poffenroth said it means you may not be registered to vote. You can confirm by calling Elections NB at 1-888-858-8683.

Those who are not currently registered to vote will need to bring some ID so polling staff can confirm their identity and address.

You will need to provide one or more pieces of ID that, between them, show your name, current address and signature.

A driver’s licence contains all three. Other options include lease agreements, utility bills, student IDs and a Medicare card.

You are not required to show ID when voting if you are already on the list of electors, said Poffenroth.

Voters can cast their ballots on election day, during advance polls on Oct. 12 and 15, or at any returning office from Monday to Saturday.

“We try and encourage early voting because you don’t know what’s going to happen on election day. A lot of people like to put it off, but if you know who you’re going to vote for, you might as well check that off your to-do list,” said Poffenroth.

You can find more information about voting on the Elections NB website.
