WestJet still working to repair 16 planes damaged by hailstorm

WestJet says it could be several more weeks before its entire fleet is back in service.

Sixteen of the company’s aircraft were seriously damaged during a hailstorm in Calgary last week.

The airline says sourcing specialized equipment and materials and completing repairs will take several weeks.

With more than 10 per cent of its fleet impacted, WestJet says proactive cancellations will continue for the time being.

An average of 50 flights per day are currently being cancelled, but the airline anticipates fewer cancellations as aircraft are returned to service in a phased approach.
