Saint John is gearing up for events to mark la Fête nationale de l’Acadie, or National Acadian Day, on Aug. 15.

A wide range of free activities will take place at Centre communautaire Samuel-de-Champlain.

It all begins at 10 a.m. Thursday with a flag raising, followed by a Tintamarre 11 a.m.

There will also be a flag-raising ceremony at Saint John City Hall at noon.

Back at Samuel-de-Champlain, there will be an Acadian musical discovery workshop at 2 p.m.

That will be followed by an Acadian mass at Saint-François-de-Sales Church at 5:30 p.m. and an Acadian meal at the Samuel-de-Champlain cafeteria at 6:30 p.m.

Following the dinner, there will be traditional Acadian music with the Fireflies, Jacob Chevarie and the Babineau Family in the cafeteria.

On Friday, there will be a concert with Beauxmont at the AREA 506 Waterfront Container Village at 7:30 p.m. Comprised of six musicians, Beauxmont blends traditional, Louisiana and Maritime sounds.
