By Brad Perry Aug 9, 2024 | 2:39 PM

The remnants of tropical storm Debby are bringing heavy rain to much of the province.

A rainfall warning was issued early Friday afternoon for Saint John and Charlotte counties.

Environment Canada said between 40 and 60 millimetres of rain is expected by late Saturday.

“Thunderstorms may develop over some areas, producing locally heavier rainfall,” said the warning.

Areas further inland are under a special weather statement from Environment Canada, including:

  • Fredericton and southern York County
  • Grand Lake and Queens County
  • Mount Carleton – Renous Highway
  • Oromocto and Sunbury County
  • Stanley – Doaktown – Blackville area
  • Sussex – Kennebecasis Valley and Kings County
  • Woodstock and Carleton County

Rainfall amounts of 30 to 40 millimetres are expected in those areas, with locally higher amounts possible.

Eastern regions of New Brunswick are not under any advisories as their rainfall totals are not expected to be significant.
