Too soon to know if ‘Debby’ will impact Maritimes

By Kevin Northup Aug 6, 2024 | 9:48 AM

We could be in for a stormy weekend.

Tropical Storm Debby is currently off the coast of Georgia, and should be making a move northeast later this week.

Environment Canada’s warning preparedness meteorologist Bob Robichaud says we could start to feel the impacts late Friday.

“We could see some enhanced rainfall from whatever is left with Debby. We anticipate it could become a post-tropical storm, and intensify as it’s going by here,” said Robichaud.

He adds that it’s still way too early to know the exact path of the storm, and there’s a chance it could miss us offshore.

Robichaud advises people to monitor the forecast before making weekend plans.

“We’ll have a better idea in the latter part of the week once the storm encounters the more coherent steering patterns, so that we know where it’s going.”
