Two face charges after 140lbs of cannabis seized at airport

Two young adults are facing drug smuggling charges after 140lbs of suspected cannabis was found in four large suitcases at Halifax Stanfield.

RCMP say it was Monday morning when Canada Border Services Agency officers intercepted the suitcases while examining outbound luggage.

The suitcases belonged to two passengers scheduled to leave the country to the United Kingdom.

Officers boarded their plane and arrested the them, held them in cells in the airport, then seized Canadian, American and British money.

The 22 and 20-year-olds were scheduled to appear in court in Dartmouth, Wednesday facing these charges:

  • Possession for the Purpose of Distributing Cannabis
  • Possession for Purpose of Exporting Cannabis
  • Possession for the Purpose of Selling Cannabis
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
  • Laundering Proceeds of Crime
