Rescue boats had to be deployed into the Petiticodiac River, after reports of a surfer in distress near Patricia Drive in Riverview.

Riverview Fire and Rescue, Moncton Fire and Dieppe Fire Departments responded just before 1 pm Tuesday.

Riverview Fire Deputy Chief John Malloy says a water, air and land search was conducted, but they did not find a surfer.

Forty fire and rescue personnel assisted in the incident, and Codiac RCMP and Ambulance NB were also on the scene.
