A 13-year-old boy is alert and awake after time on a ventilator following after an incident at a pool in Thunder Bay.
The teen was rushed to a local hospital before being transferred to London, Ontario following a medical emergency at Widnall Pool on Saturday.
A GoFundMe for the boy has raised more than $30,000 in one day, with over 500 people donating.
“He isn’t out of the woods yet but we are on the road to recovery,” said his mother in an update on GoFundMe. “If things go good today we could be getting transported tomorrow or Thursday.”
Details on what occurred at the pool have not been officially made public, but two separate investigations by the city and the Thunder Bay Police Service are underway.
In an update on Monday, police confirmed that its Major Crime and Forensic Identification Units have become involved in the ongoing investigation.
“While the public concern generated by this incident is understood, speculation that has emerged online has the potential to interfere with the investigation,” said the Thunder Bay Police Service in a release. “Investigators have been working diligently to conduct a fair and thorough investigation, which includes speaking to several witnesses and documenting the scene.”
The pool was re-opened on Monday, after being closed on Sunday.
