Fredericton’s police chief has announced he will retire after two years in the role.

Martin Gaudet will retire on Aug. 29 — the exact day he started the job in 2022.

“It has been an incredible journey, and together we have achieved significant milestones over the years,” Gaudet said in a statement.

“As I step away from this role, I want to express my gratitude. It has been a privilege to work alongside incredible individuals during my 30 years of policing.”

Gaudet joined the Fredericton Police Force in 1995. He was promoted to inspector in 2013 and deputy chief in 2015.

There is no word yet on who will replace Gaudet as chief, but he did have some parting words for his successor.

“I wish you the very best as you build upon the legacy our team has created,” he said.
