Earthquake reported in central N.B.

Some people living in central New Brunswick felt an unexpected jolt on Wednesday.

An earthquake was reported in the Doaktown area just after 10:30 a.m.

The U.S. Geological Survey said it was a 3.0-magnitude quake, while Earthquakes Canada measured it as a 3.4 magnitude.

Officials say earthquakes of that magnitude rarely cause any damage.

Most of New Brunswick is part of the Northern Appalachians Seismic Zone, which extends into New England down to Boston.

A series of significant earthquakes have occurred here, including a 5.7 magnitude in the Miramichi area in 1982.
