Federal funding for Town of Antigonish electrical grid

By Kevin Northup Jul 3, 2024 | 10:00 AM

The electrical grid in the Town of Antigonish is getting an upgrade.

The federal government is giving $9.7 million to the town, which they say will allow for more renewable energy opportunities.

The government says it will create a more efficient and resilient grid, leading to reduced power outages, and helping the town meet its net-zero goals.

Mayor Laurie Boucher says it’s a national flagship project, and will lead to a green future that benefits the community.

The town owns its own utility, 64 percent of its energy comes from renewable sources, like the Ellershouse Wind Farm.

They want to be the first municipal unit in Canada to be completely net-zero energy.
