Atikokan council to discuss bridge replacement

By Randy Thoms Jun 24, 2024 | 3:47 PM

A new steel walking bridge is proposed in Atikokan.

It would replace an existing one at Maple Crescent that crosses the Atikokan River.

A 2023 inspection found it and one at Main Street to be in severe states of deterioration.

Both bridge were closed at the beginning of June.

Council agreed to replace the Maple Cres. bridge and remove the one at Main St.

Twelve separate bids were received based on different types of materials.

The lowest bid, using steel, comes in at over $233,000.

Atikokan council will consider awarding a contract at their meeting tonight.
