Minister says millions of Canadian frustrated over rising food costs

Canadians continue to struggle to put food on the table for their families due to rising costs.

Federal ministers are meeting for a cabinet retreat over the next few days. The minister of innovation, science and industry faced questions from reporters about food costs.

Francois-Phillipe Champagne says the federal government continues to put pressure on grocers to lower prices.

He adds they’re going to make sure that the grocery code of conduct becomes a reality.

“The best way to stabilize prices and to have more choice for consumers, to have lower prices, eventually is to have more competition. We’re going to push like ever before on competition because more choice, less consolidation, more choice for Canadians would stabilize prices,” Champagne stressed.

He says the grocers need to start listening to the millions of frustrated Canadians.
