A federal investment of $300,000 is going to ten comfort centres in Richmond County.

Comfort centres play a big role during times of need, providing a safe space where people can feel supported and connected.

Today, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard and MP for Cape Breton-Canso, Mike Kelloway announced the funding.

Upgrades will include installing heat pumps, improving bathroom and kitchen facilities and upgrading accessibility. This project will better prepare each centre for a power outage, making sure community members can stay safe and warm.

“I have been on the ground listening to the needs of community members and leaders to understand what they need to recover and rebuild for the future. With strategic investments like the funding announced today for Richmond County, we are helping residents better manage the impacts of future climate-induced events,” said Kelloway.

The Hurricane Fiona Recovery Fund is a limited-time fund that will end March 31.
