RCMP in Saskatchewan arrested the main suspect Wednesday in a series of brutal stabbings in the province.
Shortly after his arrest, Myles Sanderson went into medical distress, and died in hospital.
Sanderson was taken into custody after four days on the run.
He was wanted on charges related to Sunday’s fatal stabbings.
RCMP apprehended the suspect near Rosthern, Sask.
Ten people died, and 18 were injured in attacks over the weekend.
Damien Sanderson was also wanted in connection with the incidents but was found dead in James Smith Cree Nation.
Meantime, Minister of Public Safety Marco Mendicino expressed his support for those affected by Sunday’s tragedy in Saskatchewan, “I think the only thing we can do is try to rally around them in the immediate community and as a country. There’s a long journey to go before there is any closure or justice and that is precisely why these ongoing investigations are important.”
Mendicino says an independent investigation is also being done into the circumstances that led to Myles Sanderson’s death.
RCMP have said a motive behind these attacks may never be known, but Mendicino reassured the public there are steps being taken., “It’s important that we continue to investigate the circumstances that lead to the stabbings in the first place and that is work that is being carried on by the RCMP in the community.”
