Houston questioned in Legislature on rise in ER deaths

The NDP are questioning the government on a rise in ER deaths.

According to a Freedom of Information request by the party, more people died in Nova Scotia emergency departments the first 3 quarters of this year than all of 2022.

Leader Claudia Chender says the government is failing to address the crisis in ER’s, and it’s resulting in more deaths.

“While the Premier is announcing apps, people are dying. When is he going to treat this like the serious issue it is? We need him to acknowledge this is a problem and we want to know what’s going to be done about it? ‘ she asked in the Legislature.

Premier Tim Houston says the deaths are tragic outcomes for everyone, and there are tremendous people working in our ER’s.

He says the new pharmacy and mobile clinics, along with virtual care can help free up ER’s.

Houston said there will be people that pass away in emergency departments, and it is hard on the staff and families.
