Charges upgraded to attempted murder

A Dryden man involved in an incident on Pitt Avenue last month now faces charges of attempted murder.

On September 5th officers responded to an assault at the home around 8:30 p.m. which resulted in two Ontario Provincial Police officers being sent to hospital when they were attacked with an edged weapon.

Initially the 30 year old faced a number of charges including:

  • Aggravated Assault of Peace Officer – two counts
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Resist Peace Officer – three counts
  • Public Mischief

However in a release, the OPP states following consultation with the Ministry of the Attorney General and Crown Attorney’s office the accused has now been charged with:

  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Public Mischief
  • Attempt to Commit Murder – two counts

The had been released previously from custody on a Conditional Sentence Order in connection to an incident from December of last year, where he was convicted of Assault of a Peace Officer.

He remains in custody and is expected to appear in court Thursday.
