After violence erupted in the Middle East, demonstrations in support of both Israelis and Palestinians have been happening across Canada, including Halifax.

Hundreds of people attended a pro-Israel rally at Victoria Park Monday afternoon.

Hundreds also showed up for a pro-Palestine rally at the Halifax waterfront.

Israel declared war against Hamas Saturday after the Palestinian militant group launched a surprise attack on the country.

According to multiple reports, the war’s death toll in Israel and Gaza has risen to more than one thousand people, with thousands more wounded.

Meanwhile, Ottawa advises Canadians to avoid non-essential travel to Israel, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
