More officers will be patrolling various areas of Halifax in relation to both planned events and anticipated informal student parties.
It comes as south-end Halifax residents near Dalhousie University call for a community meeting after another street party last weekend.
The official homecoming events at the university are planned for this weekend.
“We are reminding those planning to attend events today to act in a safe and responsible manner and remember there are consequences if your actions negatively impact the quality-of-life in our community.” – Halifax Regional Police
Police say residents are responsible for their own behaviour as well as that of their roommates and guests.
“Any action that unreasonably disturbs the neighbourhood can result in charges. Severe incidents may result in criminal charges being laid.”
Last year, between 3,000 to 4,000 people attended the annual street party which was described as “riot conditions” for residents and police.
