The cape Breton Regional Police have been investigating a case of arson for months ever since a house and vehicle in Sydney were set on fire.
Police and Fire crews responded to the scene on March 21st and found a home and car on Sunrise Drive engulfed in flames. They later learned that the homeowner had been woken up by the sound of a window smashing in the house, then a second item was thrown inside that ignited the blaze. The homeowner managed to escape the house uninjured.
Cape Breton Regional Fire Services responded to the scene and fully extinguished both fires. Neighbouring residents reported seeing a person running from the area after the window smash; a K9 team was called to search, and forensic officers analyzed the scene with the deputy fire marshall.
Now, almost six months later, the CBRP have a photo of the suspect and are asking anyone who recognizes them to contact the police as soon as possible. Anyone with information about this person, the fires, or who may have seen or heard anything on Sunrise Drive in the early morning hours of March 21st, is asked to please call them at 902-563-5151.
