An investigation has revealed a 3rd party contractor was at fault when it severed a gas line in Ignace last month.

On June 10th contractors working for Celerity Telecom were performing directional drilling to install fibre cables when they hit and damaged a 4 inch gas main at the intersection of Lake and Pine Streets.

Thankfully, the incident resulted in no injuries or evacuations, however 90 customers were impacted by a loss of service.

Initially the Township of Ignace stated it would continue to investigate the issue, but after speaking to the contractor and Enbridge Gas, which launched their own investigation through the Technical Standards Safety Authority, it would not be participating further.

A spokesperson for the TSSA says it issued orders including a cease and desist interfering with a pipeline and digging without a locate.
