Nova Scotia has entered a new partnered with Yukon to work together on solutions to issues facing the healthcare sector in both Jurisdictions.

Premier Tim Houston met with Yukon Premier Ranj Pillai yesterday to sign a letter intent to collaborate on initiatives such as recruiting and licensing of internationally trained healthcare professionals, improving labour mobility within Canada, and enhancing education and training opportunities for healthcare professionals.

“We are committed to investing in new ways to get more healthcare, faster to Nova Scotians across the province,” said Premier Houston in a press release. “I look forward to working with our partners in Yukon as we combine our efforts, share our knowledge and ensure everyone has access to the care they deserve.”

The letter of intent ensure that Nova scotia and Yukon will work together for at lest the next two years.

“Taking action on health human resources is a priority for our government. and I look forward to advancing this government-to-government collaboration,” said Yukon Premier Ranj Pillai in a press release.

Nova Scotia has been trying hard to address the struggling healthcare system. Difficulties recruiting doctors has put a lot of strain on employees and has cause wait times for patients to skyrocket. Recently there’s been multiple instances of people dying in ER waiting rooms because it takes so long for them to be treated.

Hopefully by collaborating with another government, some of these issues will be solved sooner rather than later.
