Yarmouth town residents will have to wait a bit longer to have their say about a potential halfway house on James Street.
A public participation meeting with the town’s Planning Advisory Committee has been delayed.
Mayor Pam Mood says the CAO is seeking an opinion on a related legal matter.
“Until the opinion is received and considered, that process is paused. It’s definitely not unusual for the CAO to seek legal advice on behalf of the town, but it is unfortunate that it affected the time of the meeting that was scheduled,” said Mood.
The John Howard Society of Nova Scotia wants to use the former Sunset Terrace building for transitional and supporting housing.
The Mayor says notice will be provided to the applicant when the process can resume.
“The interruption may be a few weeks, it certainly won’t be months. We’ll provide notice to the applicant and the public of any future meetings on this.”
