The inquest for a 25 year old man who died in hospital almost a decade ago will finally take place next month.

On February 16th 2014, Emmanuel Oruitemeka died at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, four days after collapsing while in custody of the Thunder Bay Police Service.

Five years later, in December of 2019, an inquest was set to take place but was postponed

The inquest will now take place starting on July 4th and over the course of seven days 14 witnesses are expected to provide their testimony on the circumstances surrounding the Oruitemeka’s death.

The jury involved in the inquest may make recommendations which are geared towards preventing similar deaths.
