Codiac Transpo Takes Step Closer To Zero-Emission Strategy

A funding boost to help make Codiac Transpo more climate-friendly.

The federal and municipal governments are providing $150, 000 for a multi-phase strategy.

That includes examining the cost of the buses, along with the risks and advantages, and what’s required for a full transition to zero-emission buses.

The Government of Canada is investing $120,000 in this project, and the City of Moncton is contributing $30,000.

“This is a key step in helping us plan for a zero-emission transit system, which is one of the priority actions in our Community Energy and Emissions Plan. Moving from a diesel to a zero-emission bus fleet is complex — working with experts in the field to develop a comprehensive strategy sets us up to succeed in implementing this incredibly important transition,” said Dawn Arnold, Mayor of Moncton.

Arnold was on hand this week to make the announcement along with Ginette Petitpas Taylor who is the Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and Josipa Petrunic, President & CEO of the Canadian Urban Transit Research & Innovation Consortium (CUTRIC).
