James Whalen Set To Be Extracted

By Katie Nicholls Aug 12, 2022 | 7:20 PM

After being in the water for more than three months, the James Whalen has a dry land future ahead.

The city was accepting proposals from compaines to extract the century old tug from the water which closed on Aug. 3.

The City has annouced that the contract has been awarded to LH North for $793,000.

This price includes the boat being pulled out of the water with cranes and put into a temporary wooden crib to be moved later to a more permanent location.

Instead of moving the boat twice, the City has stated that they will be enquiring with the contractor to have it moved to a more permanent location after getting pulled from the water.

The work is expected to start by mid September and be completed within the first week of October.

City employees will be scoping out site options for the tug over the next two weeks to avoid impacts to the project schedule.
