Over 200 affordable housing units will be developed and updated in Moncton and Dieppe thanks to a combined investment from two levels of government.

An announcement of $10.5 million was made today by Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and MP for Moncton–Riverview–Dieppe, along with Dorothy Shephard, New Brunswick Minister of Social Development.

The Community Hub located at 140 Joyce Avenue, receives $7.1 million.   It provides 20 affordable housing units for single men dealing with barriers including mental health issues, addictions, and physical disabilities, or prior legal issues.  It is operated by the John Howard Society of New Brunswick.

At 85 Foundry Street, operated by Downtown City Housing Incorporated, $2.4 million will be used for renovation work for 47 housing units for seniors.

Cornerstone Co-operative Housing on Preston Crescent gets just under $800 thousand for roof, window and door renovations for their 109 units for Moncton families.

On Doucet Court in Dieppe, an investment of just under $200, 000 for renovation updates to a 25-unit housing project for families.  These are operated by Dieppe Housing Co-op Ltd.

“Having access to safe and affordable housing is a critical element for all residents. We also look forward to additional affordable housing units being built in the coming years to meet the high demand,” says Dawn Arnold, Mayor of Moncton

Investments are coming from the National Housing Co-Investment Fund (NHCF), a key component of the National Housing Strategy (NHS), and the Affordable Rental Housing Program through the Governments of Canada and the New Brunswick Bilateral Agreement.

Assistance is in the form of a forgivable loan and is based on the cost of eligible work and the number of eligible self-contained units or bed units within a project.
