A sign our borders are getting back to normal.

The Canada Border Services Agency says officers at its northern Ontario borders processed almost 3.4 million travellers this year up to the end of October.

The CBSA also processed another 31 hundred permits through the Remote Area Border Crossing Program, which allows travellers to cross into Canada at certain remote parts of the region.

Commercial traffic was also up.

More than 237-thousand commercial trucks have come through the region’s border crossings.

Northern border crossings saw more than 237 thousand commercial vehicles pass through.

Officers in Fort Frances also processed 2,500 trains, carrying more than 104 thousand loads of goods.

More than $760 thousand in penalties were doled out to commercial importers passing through northern Ontario border crossings this year.

The penalties were issued for violations of our country’s trade and border legislation.

Over 1,400 were also denied entry for various reasons.
