A home converted to apartments on University Avenue in Moncton has been extensively damaged by fire.
Moncton Fire Platoon Chief Brian McDonald said when they arrived at around 730 p.m. Saturday, they found fire in an older renovated three-storey building.
McDonald says the fire started on the first floor and quickly spread to the second and third floors.
He adds firefighters immediately began a search of the building for residents.
Luckily, there was no one inside.
McDonald says it turned out the building had recently been vacated.
The building has extensive smoke, water and fire damage.

Four or five Moncton Fire stations responded to the blaze, along with NB Power, Ambulance NB, RCMP, and Public Works with the City of Moncton.
Codiac Transpo was also at the scene with a bus, but McDonald says it wasn’t required.
There is no word on a cause yet, but an investigation is underway by the Fire Marshall.
